Fjord fishing
You wil mainly catch cod or saithe, or, with a bit of luck, a sea trout. Good fishing from the shore can be done many places in the fjord. One good point is the “pier” at Paradisbukta (the closest beach to Steinker town).
Fresh water fishing - lakes
Steinkjer Kommuneskoger, Ogndalsbruket has 60 lakes, where you may fish freely with a rod. Some of the lakes are along the road. You will mainly catch trout. Contact them for boat and cabin rental. Snåsavatnet lake is ideal for boat fishing. The lake contains trout, Arctic char, burbot and eel. In the “Leksdalsvatnet” it is possible to catch both trout and Arctic char.
Fishing licence
The mandatory payment for freshwater fishing has been annulled*. For areas not own by the Steinkjer kommuneskoger/Ognalsbruket there are fishing license available at Sportshytta in Kongensgate in Steinkjer. They also have everything you need for your fishing trip.
*The mandatory payment for freshwater fishing has been annulled. Any person over the age of 16 wishing to fish in salmon rivers must still pay the mandatory fishing fee. If you use immobile equipment to fish for salmon, sea trout and sea char, you must paythe mandatory fee of 180 NOK. Fishing cards for most rivers are sold at Sportshytta in Steinkjer.
